Research and/or clinical interests

Dr. Biernacki is a hematologist-oncologist who specializes in providing bone marrow transplants for people who have leukemia and other blood cancers. In addition to caring for patients at SCCA, she is a researcher in the laboratory of Dr. Marie Bleakley at the Fred Hutch. Her work is focused on developing new immunotherapies for leukemia. By targeting cancer-specific gene mutations, the idea is that these therapies can home in on cancer cells and kill them without harming healthy tissue. In 2016, she received a $25,000 grant from the Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research to create new, less toxic immunotherapies for children with acute myeloid leukemia.
