Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship in Oncology and Stem Cell Transplant

The Oncology/Stem Cell Transplant Fellowship for Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) is offered to Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners through the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) and its Alliance partners, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Fred Hutch) and the University of Washington (UW). This paid, one year, comprehensive experience affords the opportunity to participate in one of two tracks: Medical Oncology or Stem Cell Transplant. This is one of the few cancer APP fellowships in the U.S.

This is unpublished

Advanced Practice Provider fellows at SCCA are Physician Assistants (PA) and Nurse Practitioners (NP) who aspire to care for patients with cancer and blood disorders. Each fellow should have completed a PA or NP training program and passed the initial board certification. Most fellows are new graduates or those with less than five years of experience. Each year, SCCA accepts three new APP fellows to the program. The program start date is the beginning of November.

Fellows work with ~160 current advanced practice providers at the SCCA, all of whom specialize in cancer.

Program Highlights

Fellows receive a generous stipend, medical and dental benefits, and CME support.

  • Clinical training.  Through intense subspecialty training at SCCA, fellows build expertise in hematology, oncology and stem cell transplant. The APP fellows at SCCA are an integral part of a patient's multidisciplinary team, working hand-in-hand with medical and support staff to provide patient-centered care and critical insights into the patient's treatment.
  • Scholarly projects.  APP fellows are encouraged to research projects of interest and to publish.  Our fellows have a good track record of publication in scholarly journals.
  • Academics.  APP fellows are expected to participate in many regularly scheduled local conferences, such as the bi-monthly hematologic malignancy interdisciplinary patient care conference or the bi-monthly breast cancer conference.  Fellows also have the opportunity to attend other classes and programs offered by the SCCA and Fred Hutch, such as statistical methods instruction or grand rounds lectures.
